THE 5 UPS MEASURED Since I wrote the blog “Up! The 5 Ups That Go A Long Way Toward A Life of Success and Fulfillment,” I have been reminded over and over again just how vital these actions are, not only to a successful life but to a healthy life. I was watching The Doctors last week, and Dr. Travis was discussing obesity. He said that there is some compelling evidence that the lack of quality sleep could be a contributor to obesity. He compared the feelings and the stress on the body from jet lag, to the same with lack of sleep. So, just one more compelling reason to take the 5 Ups seriously, and especially the first…GET UP. (If you are reading this blog for the first time, go back and review the 5 Ups). After playing in the NFL and being in corporate leadership for many years, I know and believe that you can’t manage what you can’t measure. Every action of a professional athlete, both in practice and in the game, is filmed, measured, reviewed over and over and over and over. Similarly, the corporate world follows with all types of measuring metrics. So, if you believe that the 5 Ups are important, which it would be hard to argue that they are not, use the following measuring device to score yourself on just where you are with these in your life. Don’t hesitate to give yourself a 10 if you truly believe that you are very good at any of them. (I find that some people don’t like to give themselves a 10 because they always feel that they could be better.) Also, after you have scored yourself, have your spouse or significant other score you. My wife gave me a 45, slightly lower than I scored myself… isn’t that interesting!!! Here is the measurement grid. Use the results to learn and grow. And, have fun! how-to-be-successful-tips
